Last night, I went and saw the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion play at a very intimate venue (The Mod Club Theatre in Toronto) and can I just say that Mr. Jon Spencer may just be the greatest live performer out there today. You would be hard pressed to convince me that any performer out there can top his charisma, intensity, balls, talent, showmanship, fire and everything else a rock and roll frontman requires.
Sure, their albums may not be as up to snuff as they used to be, but their live show has not dwindled one bit since I first saw the band when I was 16, with his elvis-in-a-skillet moves, his tweaking the knobs on his therman and throwing his sweat on the crowd like holy water. Incredible.
No other trio exists that could rock the pants off a crowd as much (except for maybe Nomeansno from Victoria, BC). If he's coming to your town, go see them, you will not regret it nor forget it for the rest of your life.
Originally posted by darvlayDon't forget, Iggy is still out there. He may not be quite the wild man of yesteryear, but he still rocks hard. Saw him live for the first time in '89 - best show i've ever heard/seen. And that was after his chest-gouging, peanut-butter smearing, biker-baiting smacked-out days were over...check out Metallic KO, the Stooges legendary last show...

Originally posted by wucky3i don't think you can compare the two. they both have very different styles and personalities. one plays rock and roll and the other sucks. i'll leave you to figure out which is which.
well i saw richard ashcroft (the verve)last year at a pretty small gig in manchester..and it was probably the best live performance i have ever seen...
(Just kidding - to each their own, right?)
Originally posted by player42I saw Robert Randolph too this year. he was fantastic. Played for like 3 hours. And not a boring three hours like a Phish show but a good three hours.
Last night I saw The Dirty Dozen Brass Band in a little bar. Wow! They still rock! I couldn't sit still all night! But you know who's even better? Robert Randolph and the Family Band!
