There's nothing quite like the first gulp of beer when one finally sits down for that weekly sequence of several bottles. No other mouthful thereafter is quite as slaking as that first one.
One of the downsides of retirement from office work, is that Friday after-work lime [local parlance for drinkup and socialize]. For me it was the gulps from the first 3 beers. Fridays are not the same anymore.

That must be quite moving in person. I don't think we have a parallel in American sports. Interesting to look up the history of the song, too.

My internet buddy I could ask you the same question in a different way.

Why would anyone want to drink just because it is Friday and the end of the work week. If they need that every Friday they could have drinking issues! Unless of course they stop after a couple. 😉 In that case it would be called a few sociable drinks.

Most people I know can stop after a few drinks. Most people can drink more than a few and you would not even know that they are drinking. It is like 5% of people who cannot hold their liquor and they make fools of themselves. Now these are the ones with a drinking problem.

I drink a bit more than I should but it has not caused any social or work problems, I have to drive early each day so bought my own breathalyser .

Most people are happy drunks [for want of a better word], some are quiet drunks, some are noisy drunks, but only a handful are abusive drunks. As long as you are not in the last category you are fine. Im more the quiet type and mind my own business.

You've obviously never been to an AA meeting. You'd be quite shocked and surprised at the professionals that you would see there! Surgeons have the highest standards of tobacco use, and female surgeons have the highest rates of alcohol abuse than other healthcare workers. Attorneys also have some of the highest rates of addiction than other professional industries.
