@very-rusty saidWhy would I want to go to an AA meeting or know who is addicted and who is not? An alcoholic has a special definition. Someone who drinks alcohol is not an alcoholic.
You've obviously never been to an AA meeting. You'd be quite shocked and surprised at the professionals that you would see there! Surgeons have the highest standards of tobacco use, and female surgeons have the highest rates of alcohol abuse than other healthcare workers. Attorneys also have some of the highest rates of addiction than other professional industries.

@rajk999 saidWhether you know it or not, any one who drinks can become an Alcoholic, and you're not an Alcoholic until you admit to yourself you are one. If people around you are telling you that you may possibly have a drinking issue, may be a good idea to listen to them.

@very-rusty saidI think you have a fixation on alcohol. Someone with a fixation about food might sound like this :

Whether you know it or not, any one who eats can become fat, and you're not a fatty until you admit to yourself you are one. If people around you are telling you that you may possibly have a eating issue, may be a good idea to listen to them.

@rajk999 saidI don't have a fixation on alcohol, I am not the one misses the Friday night drinks.

You have to get past the denial, unless like I said you're a sociable drinker. I called myself that for years.
You never answered my question about others around you telling you that you may have a drinking issue?
You see how you try and change the subject to food? 😉

@very-rusty said"Friday night drinks" is a social thing. It's about a dangling carrot, a light at the end of the week's working tunnel, it's about friends, letting off steam etc No one can develop an addiction problem with alcohol if they only drink once a week.

@fmf saidThat is where you are wrong fmf, you know nothing about Alcoholism obviously.

Anyone who drinks can become addicted. You tell yourself it is about letting off steam or any excuse you can come up with. There are also different forms of Alcoholism. Just because you have a job doesn't mean you're not an alcoholic. There are many Professional who are alcoholics, Doctors, Nurses, Lawyers, Policeman, Fireman, Teachers, and list goes on and on.
