Is your spouse driving you crazy and nagging about the time you try to spend playing chess?

She would be if I hadn't made a deal. I told her i wouldn't play any more chess for a year. I didn't say anything about the forums though!😛 Just kidding! She is much too busy with her life to notice my time "spent" on RHP.

As an aside... I always walk away, as in "Look" away from the computer "immediately" if a human enters the room. I decided years ago that any and all human beings "outrank" the computer. By doing this... always looking the person in the eye and saying "Hi. What you up to?"... I have managed to avoid "Computer Overload". Just make up your mind as to what is more important... a chess move or your real life. It's not rocket science. Walk away from the computer and tell a story to a kid. It might be something you remember years from now. I guarantee you will not remember any particular chess move or game in the years you have remaining.

Hoping we all can be a little less obsessed and a little more caring to "real things" like "people".

Mike

My wife howls once-in-a-while, but no worse than when I spend too much time hunting. 😀 I have 5 year old twins. They like to watch me play chess. When I know where the person I'm playing is from, we look that place up on a map.

No, but that has a lot to do with that I do all of my online stuff at work. On the subject of spending time with the spouse though, all I can say is that it is a fine line we walk indeed. 😉

My wife doesn't nag at me, but I do get the occasional growl. I only get in real trouble if I try to tell her about chess. By the way, the growl thing isn't a bear joke either: she really growls if I'm too long at chess!

I took some heat for it, but then I reminded her about how much time she looks at catalogs looking for crap to buy or looking at Oprah learning about how bad men are. Oh yea, I didn't cut the grass but one time this summer. She did it. That's right. And I'm about to throw Oprah out. One must not let these things get out of hand. 😠

Oprah Winfrey ---> Pay for Whiner.

I tried to use 'Harpy', but the remainder was none too good....'fine row'...

the secret is to get an even worse hobby like gambling and then negotiate. After you've wasted a few hundred bucks on the horses, your spouse/parents will be happy to have you give it up and return to spending your time on a harmless pursuit like chess.
