I know this subject has been beaten to death, but.... I've got a couple of games going and my opponent has his vaction flag up, but he hasn't moved in almost a month. Should I time him out?

I guess it depends on how much you're enjoying the games. If you have an obvious winning advantage and want to clear them off your list then go for it. If the games are still fairly even you'll gain nothing by timing them out, besides a few rating points of course.

Did they tell you they were going away and when they might be back? Did they edit their profile to say they might come back some time??

If no to both I would have timed them out a couple weeks ago.

When I went away for ONE WEEK I tried to message most everyone I played... changed my profile to say when I would be back... and even edited my forum avatar and profile picture to say when I would be back.

Did they do anything to ensure you they would ever be back? A month is a long time.

hey,

Sometimes, as in my case, something happens and you can't make it to the site. You get someone to put on your vacation flag for you and WHAPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMM!! you get timed out in like ten games. That rating (which admittedly wasn't the best), which you worked so hard to get above 1300 is now demolished. My profile looks like i just climbed down the steep slope of mount Everest.

Never again shall I time out now that I know how it feels to get the short end of that stick!! Thats my 2 cents.

thank yoooooooooo

I guess I kind of see it as, my rating is very important to me, and I start/accept games knowing that it is not guaranteed that I can make it to the site, but it is my choice to take the chance. I lost internet access for about the whole month of Sept. and I had tons of games going, and a few tournament games to boot. EVERYONE timed me out except one person, besides the people I know personally. My rating went down from 1300 something to almost 1100! But I don't blame anyone for timing me out. I guess there was a difference in that the loss of the internet connection was sudden so I never put my vacation status up or let people know I am leaving, but still, everyone had the right to time me out and I don't blame them. It sucked big time, yeah, but I just used it as a challenge to raise my rating. I feel that it is everyone's own personal choice whether they want to claim a win. It depends for me who I time out. If it is a non pawnstar I claim quicker because they are new and just don't seem interested. Then again, Right now i also have 3 games I can claim, over a month old! So in short, I think it is the player's personal preference.

P.S. I am very proud to say that in 2 months time I have gotten my rating back up- to the highest rating I've ever had! 😲

Claim the wins and move on!

Unfortunately there are a few people who abuse the vacation setting and put it on in a lost situation and not due to a hoilday, hoping their opponent wont time them out etc. So sometimes it can be difficult to tell if someone is genuinely on hols or just faking!!!

So the motto must be, if in doubt, time them out!!!

take it ,if he or she is away for a month they deserve to be timed out anyway because i cant afford to be away for a month no-one else should.😉

Sorry to hear you lost to so many TO's. I agree with Dylan above - it depends how much you are enjoying the game and as i said to you in a PM our game is my most complicated game at the moment and no way did i want to time it out. Looking forward now to seeing how it ends. 🙂
