RedWings19 is taking some necessary time out due to his grandmother passing away.

He has displayed his flag, and given his reasons clearly - he also staes when he will return.

I normally advocate taking timeouts when possible, but i'd balk at doing so in theses circumstances; I notice however that some others have decided to take timeouts.

I think this is in bad taste - thoughts anyone??

Yes, bad taste. Unfortunate, but uncontrollable.

It's people`s choice to do so

It can be distressing, but I'm sure redwings19 doesn't care, and when he comes back, he'll be prepared to climb back up. He is a standup guy that I've seen from my dealings with him and my thoughts go out to him at this time.

If your opponents in a tournament or league are claiming the win, I think you should (may) do the same. If it is just a challenge, I would leave it like it is. You can aks him / her to end the game no sooner than the rating is back up, to make it fair to you too in case you will be losing.

Perhaps some of these are automatic time-outs.

Nope, they are all clan challenges. Its not like he's gone for long, so some leeway would have been nice.

On the other hand, I still support automatic timeouts for all rated games. That way there can be no comebacks, no moralizing, no recriminations.

I used to harvest skulls, but when you've been run out of a few towns, it loses its appeal.
