Timezones

I play on this site at night (UK night that is) and something has just occurred to me. When i first come online (around 10pm GMT) the site is quite busy. As the night goes on there are less and less players around. The result of this is that at first, i can play quite a lot of moves, and, as time goes by people go to bed or do what they do and im stuck for a game to play.

Now, this probably isn't that interesting but if you think about the current race for #1, it changes things. If a really good player joined this site, but lived in a wierd timezone, it would probably be impossible for them to reach the top unless they went completely unbeaten. The reason for this (as i see it) is that all the other people in the top 10 (even the slow movers) would complete infinetely more games in any given time.

it is with this in mind i'd like to offer an appology to all my fans who are all no doubt disappointed at my failure to secure the #1 hot seat 😉¬~

I think you've just got to hunt down the right people to play Marinaka. The sun is always shining somewheres! I just sat down and made a rough sketch of timezones for you and I, but rough as I said so it may not be totally accurate. For me I roughly log on at midnight and play through the night. That means that it is between 7-10a.m. in Europe and Africa, roughly 5p.m. in Asia and Australia and roughly 4a.m. on the east coast and South America. So I probably have it pretty good seeing as how the Europeans are up and about when I am playing.

With you it's a little different, maybe not as good but not bad. At 3a.m. when you would be playing, it's about 6p.m. here on the west coast, 10pm on the east coast, between 9-11a.m. in Australia and Asia, and the middle of the night for Europe and Africa. So what you've got to do is find a lot of american friends that play in the evening, and Australian friends who play in the morning, and a few night owls in your neck of the woods. Then you'd be set!
