OK now folks this is sad. Really sad. I was unable to get to this site for three days and a hour and a half thanks to homework. Now, I'm not exaggerating here with the times. Then I come back and it seems people have waited to time me out, because the second I missed the time limit I got blown. Now, I understand that I was at a material advantage in three of my five games, but 1. I would have still had a good game in a few, 2. had a dead draw in one, 3. was winning in one, and 4. doesn't the thing that comes up before you time someone out say " ...only if someone absolutly refuses to move"? I mean, I might be wrong, but what do you think? And no, they were clan games, not tournement.

poor people... 3 days... honestly, some people have no manners, i've timed out twice. one because a player was gone for 2 months without a vacation sign, and the other has yet to return (its been a looooong time). i doubt he's coming back. i just don't understand why some people can't wait a while. πŸ™

Time control is agreed before the game, hence is like a contract to be respected:in real chess when the clock runs out you lose,so there's nothing strange.
No vacation flag? Time out!

I say it again:automatic timeouts are common in other chess sites, why not here?

But if he was winning a game they should have been respectful and not claimed a win.

That's ridiculous!! I've felt that way a time or two but in reality if you run out of time, you lose and that should be the end of story. No dumb whining; if you think you can win against the person, you can always challenge them again when you know you'll have the time.

I've been suffering from this lately. I got timed out on 4 or 5 games in the last 2-3 weeks cos i was moving house. Then my internet was banned at work! Sometimes life gets in the way of internet chess, it's annoying that people don't understand that. I mean, this ain't the world championships, there are no prizes. I was winning all of the games, by at least a piece. It's just cynical.

Its just a game! Why do you time people out? If they don't move in 3 days it's not the end of the world! For one, I feel good when people thank me for not timing them out. Plus timing people out when you're loosing isn't really playing chess; its showing you're a bad sport about it.

Ravello is right.

Cheshire Cat is right.

Timing out when you are losing is not wrong.

The only thing I believe is really wrong is deliberately dragging out a lost game to try to go for a time out.

Time limits are part of the game, just like they are in OTB chess. There are plenty of timeout options. I see no reason anyone should complain about being timed out. I expect to be timed out as soon as my time runs out, and I'm not at all mad when it happens.

I ALWAYS NOTIFY THE PERSON/S OF THE FACT THAT I'M GOING TO TAKE THE TIMEOUT - CAN'T BE FAIRER THAN THAT ?

You say that it's just a game.
I reply that time control is a rule and part of the game.
End of the matter.

I came here to play chess. I stayed here to have fun, and when people time out it defeats the purpose. Why do you take this so seriously? πŸ˜•

Pathetic.
I agree with u that a TO its part of the rules of the game.
But there r some people that are hungry for earn some points out of u.
I play here just for fun. The avaricious people that play here only to demonstrate they are "good players" -which isnt always the case- should be banned.

As u already know, there are rules... to be respected, or to be abused.

Im referreing to the last, of course.

Oh well. They would get a life, after all.

Regards

Michael

What is fun about sitting around waiting to see when, if ever, someone will move?
