Right now I could claim a T/O victory against Dustnrogers, but in away
I don't feel it is ethical. He beat me in an earlier game and I could
even the score, but I have a problem with that. Take game is fairly
even and I would not have a problem if I was having a stronger
position.
I will wait a while, but not more than a week.
Please, give me some feedback.

I have just claimed a timeout victory over DustnRogers. He
challenged me, and should have known the time limit. He didn't
email me, or message me, or post anything in the forums. He's is
familiar with timeouts, as is evident by his profile. I've no truck with
those who do not make their moves. There is nothing more
frustrating then waking up all excited to play chess and then
reading "0 Games awaiting your moves". I say time him out and be
done with it.

The other issue is that this would move me to the 1600 level, but I
believe that my ranking would be too high for my abilities. I think my
real level should be perhaps high 1400s or low 1500s, but this would
pit me over 1600. I can barely handle players at 1400 level. I have
actually 4 games awaiting with possible T/O wins.

If you want to get better than sticking in a "safe" ranking will never
work.
The whole point of improving is to test your abilities against players
who are better than what you are used to. It is through this that you
will learn tactics like you never have.
I am not saying to drop playing people lower than you and ones that
are even...just try to take on some higher people as well.

Right on-- the most educational games I have ever played have been
LOSSES, and they have been to higher rated players. Not just Dave,
either. You want ratings points-- they're easy enough to get, just
keep playing weaker players. You want to get serious about
improving your game? READ, play better players, and SLOW DOWN
(my biggest problem).

Oh, take 'em. Feel proud you are in the 1600s. Either you will keep the points - in which you case
you deserved them, or you won't - in which case you will make the oppenent you takes 'em happy
for a few extra.
That, by the way, is one of the beauties of the rating system - it quickly equalizes any abberations.
And if you do get kicked back down to the 1400/1500s, why the memory of how sweet that 1600
rating tasted was will spur you to fight and improve. Nothing like grabbing the brass ring once to
make you want it again....
