Here's how John Travolta convinced him that it was the right path to take:

I lost a good friend to Scientology. Perhaps he actually needed it. He'd eat any pills from his mother or grand-mother, drink beer, smoke, snort... anything.... all at once. He spent the night in his van after he drove it off the high way and into a ditch off the back roads here.

We did a lot of junk when we were younger, but this guy went to another level beyond anything we did, and never listened when we told him to slow down. More often than not he was walking around as a zombie or passed out someplace strange. It wasn't even fun to draw on him anymore.

I think that speech was geared towards other scientologists.

Amazing! I watched it and I had to do something: I had to resist the urge to shut the video off at 3:13.

He's a drug free robot working to recruit more idiots into Scientology.

They pay for his housing and food, and he works every waking hour passing out pamphlets.

The alternative I feel is him being in the ground for some 20 years now.

It's strange how people can change their life around, exhibit great personal strength to overcome adversity and addiction, and then give credit to some kooky cult instead of the people that really deserve it - themselves.

He can always take the ground any time he likes, he prefers to pass out pamphlets.
