Can anyone advise of the simplest way to do this please?

I do have a VCR, but obviously it is not a combo DVD recorder. I'm looking for simplicity rather than price, although a decent combo recorder is around £200/£250 although I'd sooner have everything on PC as a start point rather than on disk.

I've seen a few things on the web, such as this:

Thanks for your advice.

got any friends that have a dvd recorder if so borrow it if you can, get a scart lead and a blank DVD+RW then set the 2 machines away with scart lead tape to dvd, when finished put DVD in computer then get a free DVD ripper from the internet and save your rip to any format you want. Then you can reuse your DVD+RW again for more tapes.

check the back of your PC, your video card may already accept coax cable input from your VCR and be able to capture a video signal. check the apps for your video card, see if there's any capture utilities.

otherwise buy a capture card for $25-$100 or so.

see videohelp.com, they have a lot of info on capture cardds and methods.

using a capture card and capture utility will dump the output of your VCR to a video file (.avi or similar).

you can edit this and burn it to DVD. most capture cards should come with the utilities to do this.
