Wow, you really sound qualified to be telling him this stuff.

Yes, we have a soccer league called MLS (Major League Soccer). The quality of play isn't nearly as good as the leagues of the soccer powerhouse country.

Some of the best players from the US, who will represent our national team in the upcoming World Cup are DaMarcus Beasley, Landon Donovan, Claudia Reyna, Brian McBride, John O'Brien, and Clint Mathis. Many of these players play in the leagues of other countries, some on highly respected teams.

I'd like to know if American's have any other inspirational chant other than USA! USA! USA! Or is chanting just not done at sports matches as it gets in the way of coke slurping and burger munching?

The official chant is "Goals! Goals! Goals! For the red, white, and blue! etc" And sometimes people sing "Olay," but there really isn't nearly the crowd involvement as there is in other countries. "The Wave" generally dies out quickly. People seem uncomfortable getting excited about soccer in America.

McBride, Donovan and Reyna arn't bad. Brad Friedel should be in goal though. Old but reliable.

I should add that although they have one or two quite good players, they appear to be nothing like the level of the best teams, and will be unlikely to progress far in the World Cup.

I think Keller is a better keeper.

Man United were after Eddie Gavin a couple of years ago. Dunno if he's still playing or what [he was quite young I think] Anyway he was a really good player.

What would you prefer us to chant? I'd like to know if an English football match has ever finished without riots and hooligans knocking sense in each other's heads....or do they slip on foot-deep fish-n-chips and budweiser-slick floors before they can get a punch in? 🙄

no. there are hundreds of thousands of english Football fans every week (let it be known everyone calls it Football except you's) slipping on fish n chips, and rioting all over the place, so none of the games ever get finnished.
Thats why Liverpool (where the beatles come from) and Arsenal (not where the beatles come from, but where you talk out of) have to play in Europe. . .its the only way they can get a full game.

The US isn't very good at soccer because our kids are privileged enough to have footballs, basketballs, baseballs, and other WAYBETTER sports equipment besides balls of tape they kick around.

might be a tad optimistic. 😀

soccer sounds just so stupid. why don't you start calling it football like everyone else, and maybe rename that handball-thingy of yours as 'rugby-for-sissies' or something. 🙂 just kidding of course, it's a fine game as well. but it's not really football, is it? I'm sure the marketing people would love to name it as 'xtreme ball' or something...
