might be a tad optimistic. 😀
soccer sounds just so stupid. why don't you start calling it football like everyone else, and maybe rename that handball-thingy of yours as 'rugby-for-sissies' or something. 🙂 just kidding of course, it's a fine game as well. but it's not really football, is it? I'm sure the marketing people would love to name it as 'xtreme ball' or something...
Doesn't really have a ring to it...
I've aclways wondered why we call Football football, when the only use of a foot is punting or kicking a field goal.
As far as rugby goes, we do have that game in America. It's called 'Smear the Queer.' One person gets the ball, a hundred others try to tackle him. I wonder what nationality invented that? I'm gonna make a guess here and say that they down pints of Guiness and come out of their pubs. Drunk out of their minds, they find something to throw and throw it at one of their mates. He catches it, and in their drunken stupor one of them yells "tackle him!"
Voila, rugby was conceived..

What would you prefer us to chant? I'd like to know if an English football match has ever finished without riots and hooligans knocking sense in each other's heads....or do they slip on foot-deep fish-n-chips and budweiser-slick floors before they can get a punch in? 🙄
To be honest I think Italy will beat the USA, and then the USA will draw with the Czechs (whilst both these teams beat Ghana), then Italy and the Czechs draw, whilst the USA get beaten by Ghana, leaving the group looking like this:
Italy 7 points
Czech Rep 5 points
Ghana 3 points
USA 1 point
In addition- to whoever mentionned Freddie Adu, I really think he is just overhyped, I mean, if he can't get into the USA team now, he can't be as everyone thinks. Even the interest from Chelsea and other big clubs is cooling, as they have realised this.
Originally posted by welsharniehes not even geting to play for his club much. as for your predictions italy never do that well at the group stage, i think 5 maybe 6 points at most for them. the czech rep. do play well at the group stages, i think they'll win the group with the usa 3rd and ghana 4th. the usa are a better team than you think - a lot of spirit there.

Originally posted by chancremechanicThat's rather unfair on the English, CM; they tend to drink Belgian and German sub-standard lager these days, rather than the American stuff. Swiftly dying are the days of real ales and a rake of pies and puds... otherwise, fair enough, though. Carry on.

Originally posted by trevor33I think the Italians will get that problem sorted for this WC, and I know the USA can play, but I think that they will bottle it in the last game. I'd say the bigger problem is people underestimating Ghana.

Originally posted by welsharniethe team who comes second in this group will (likely) play brazil - i hope its italy because i think they will beat them. your right about ghana but if they lose both their games before they play the usa their heads might go down a bit. i think this and the holland group are the strongest in the world cup - should be some interesting matches.
