I've just come in from seeing U2 at Twickenham. What a concert, every song a classic and a sound a light performance to match the music.
The only group that has come close to that level of performance is queen- and sadly freddie is no longer with us.
I first saw U2 21 years ago for £4.50 just before "the unforgetable fire" came out. I was amamzed then, still amazed now @ £77.50. Bono et al are musical magiciians.
Who else should I see before I die?

Originally posted by invigorateU2 is a great band and really put on a great concert but, the best ever, I don't think so. I saw Led Zeppelin in 69, Queen in 74, Nugent, Kansas, and Aerosmith in 75, the list goes on. I best band I ever saw in concert was Jethro Tull. They kicked major ass that night on their Thick as a Brick tour. That's my opinion and I'm sure I'll have many naysayers on it but, that is whats great about music. Different strokes for different folks.

75% of the band is completely static and Bono has an "I am God" complex.
Best live concerts I've seen would be:
1. Springsteen.
Even though his lyrics are dodgy, his music teetering on the brink of retro and his last 5 albums have not been what they used to be, live he still rules. The whole band are involved and so are the audience.
2. Billy Bragg
Nothing like a couple of socialist rants and joking with an audience to create a brilliant atmosphere
3. The Sultans of ping FC
Just because they're weird. The guitar players were dressed in tight black rubber costumes (very arty...) and the singer's pants were held up by his groin. He didn't have a T-shirt on and he kept rubbing his microphone over his chest until he was bleeding.
And with lyrics like:
Let's go shoppin' babe,
Put on yer flip flops and let's go shoppin' babe,
You'll push the trolley and I'll push the pram,
You'll buy the coffee and I'll buy the jam,
Let's go shoppin' babe...
What could go wrong?!?!

Who else should I see before I die?
Well from my own personal experiences and wildly bias opinion, I reckon you should go see the following three:
Metallica - The undisputed Kings of Metal, the Godfathers of thrashing riffs and Messiah's of ear-melting solo's, an iridescent and dazzling beacon of brilliance that shines over other bands trapped in the talentless musical mire of modern music. Last time I had the opportunity and pleasure to go see them was Reading Festival (aka The Carling Weekend) 2003. Here 'tallica were ending their UK tour, head-ling the festival on it's last night. It just also happened to be Hetfield's (the band's front man for all you heathens) 40th birthday. The band gave such an amazing performance that it drew about 95% of the festival crowd over to the main stage. It's also rumoured that some of the other bands that had been given the unfortunate slot to play at the same time as 'tallica decided that playing for the handful of people watching them perform at that time wasn't worth it, and so they (the bands!) abandoned their performance to watch Metallica play instead... O_o
The Prodigy - Techno-punk extraordinaires, their names says it all! Yet another ground breaking band that (like the afore mentioned 'tallica) have paved the way for their musical genre... in fact they've paved the way, gravelled the drive and put in a few flower beds too! Outrageous mixing skills and titanic stage presence, coupled with their infamous tunes and guarantee a performance you'll never forget. You'll dance till your legs fall off!
Faithless - The only one of the trio I have not seen. Everyone I've ever met who has seen them live adores them and claims they are THE best live band of the 20th century... a little bit outrageous but still, everyone's entitled to their opinion. Like The Prodigy, they are apparently a MUST see for dance fanatics. Beats that'll make you ears drop off, bass that'll turn your insides to jelly and tunes that will be etched into your mind forever!
i've heard tale of AC/DC, iron maiden and guns n' roses from when they were in their prime being excellent live bands, and iron maiden were rather spiffing when i saw them, as were velvet revolver (vaguely guns n' roses, minus axl).
Slipknot, although i don't like their music, were awsome when i saw them live. they know how to get the audience going and most of them have a great stage presence.
metallica-"undisputed Kings of Metal, the Godfathers of thrashing riffs and Messiah's of ear-melting solo's"? i dispute that!
Originally posted by JPRRookI've have only seen them on their Greatest Hits tour, but it was at their 'home venue' of Cardiff Indoor Arena, and it was an awesome experience.
Manic street preachers in the early days were an incredible live band.
The other band I would recommend is Muse... absolutely phenomenal live performances, so much energy and stage presence!
Originally posted by Daemon SinI'm not really a faithless fan but I went to see them earlier this year and they were amazing. Everybody danced from start to finish.

I've also been fortuatnate to see Billy Bragg who in my opinion is the best poet of the last century. Billy works a crowd really well.
But U2 Live is not just concert its a show. Even if you don't like the music the corieograhy and the structure and the energy give a more complete performance.
I was perfect drunk too - which helps
