We brits can't help having beauty-deficiency-syndrome, but don't pity us.
It is now politically correct here to be ugly blind and stupid and we are strapped to being tongue- tied in rejecting this state of affairs.
( The fact that I can touch my nose with my tongue actually won me many young ladies in the past =- God knows why - at 63 years old I can now touch my left ear with my tongue, but nobody is interested)
In the 1940s Churchill was told off by Lady Astor, for being drunk whilst he was running the country.
He replied, as everyone knows, that he may well be drunk but that she was ugly - and in the morning he would be sober, but she .....

Now in the Uk that conversation is reversed.

the only way you wouldn't be ugly any more
would be if I was still drunk (good)
