There are a few decent ones out there, but most get damaged by the job. Trying to engineer a fair deal between Bargain-hunter and Entitled, or Battler and Fatcat must be so hard on the integrity that the decent ones don't last.
It's an occupation being made obsolete by technology anyway.

I have never found realtors to be all that in-awe-of-themselves as that.
Then again, maybe it's your point-of-view of them.

In the US too. I have bought three houses and sold two. I did all the work except for filing paperwork, for which I paid as generous 6% for them to do.
I paid 1% on my recent sale after a negotiation down from 1.5%. The property sold in 24 hours without making the internet as they had the buyer on their books waiting for one like mine.
I could have sold it myself for a quarter of what I paid them but I have to say these agents were still a pleasure to deal with and the exception I referred to in my OP.
