It was always going to be a stupid idea, but then as far as I'm concerned all social media is a stupid idea.
for centuries, news reports, stories, and legends were passed around the community campfire
the spoken word

then humans created the written form of language, but it was hoarded by those who wanted power and control over the populace that did not know how to read
because now history was less changeable

then the peasants revolted and became edumacated
and learned the history they had been denied, and became much more self-reliant, and the autonomy spread like a virus

and then communication was that crazy person standing onna box on the corner of main street telling all who would listen to his ravings about the wondrous visions he had seen

but the real elevation of communication came when folks {regular folks!} began to write their own books, manuals, pamphlets, screeds, and manifestos
because the act of writing down one's ideas gave them real power
and the ideas spread

then came that day
awwww nutz!
that stupidly crazy day
when everyone who had ever dreamed of writing a editorial opinion in a newspaper or a technical manual for a more excellent crossbow, was handed the keys to the printing press

the internet was born
and now the playing field was leveled and every mind, everywhere, qualified or not, was given the power to foist upon those who did not know to protect their eyes and ears from the deranged lunatics that had been quiet for eons

run-of-the-mill events were touted as earth shattering one-of-a-kind glorious awakenings
"MY KID JUST DRANK A GLASS OF WATER!"
"I'M GONNA EAT THIS TACO!"

and the children saw the "adults" amusing themselves outside of the bedroom and like any child willing to eat dirt wanted badly to join in the fun
and the adults, who could not withstand the onslaught of a screaming toddler that demanded dirt to eat, handed the child the keys to a voice enhancement they did not need to or have any business using

too dang long rookie
ain't nobody gonna read yer rants this morning
they be too busy creating video of the children setting the world on fire

anyways, i said all that just to say this
ms kewpie is to blame for my inspiration
she is a genius and deserves ALL the kudos

Every day for the last 18 months or I’ve woken up wondering what fresh hell or comedic capers will be unleashed that day.

I don’t know what’s coming with the Knave of the North but here is something to consider:
We are less than two years into this government and the probable next Prime Minister was campaigning against his own party in a by election under the message of “HOPE”.

These truly are bizarre times.

Expect more of the same. Can't stand LFOI Burnham. The cretin played a key role in privatising the NHS, voted for the Iraq War and has jumped on just about every band wagon there is. No-one calls him King of the North other than the mouth piece for the establishment media. Labour are finished and Burnham isn't going to change that.

I didn’t call him “King” either.

In the UK if you’re under 16 you are banned (will be) from social media; period.
If you’re 16-18 you are banned (will be) from live-streaming and other platform options.

Platforms include; Facebook, TikTok, Snapchat, X (formerly twitter) and Instagram.

Platforms excepted; Bluesky, WhatsApp (meta).

Data shows that 60% of Australian aged restricted young people circum ...[text shortened]... st[/i] a national enquiry into the multi-decades long grooming and rape-gangs scandal.

Thoughts?
Underage drinking is illegal.

Nothing to add

I have to add a few things on second thoughts:

Young people will find a way around bans of harmful behavious/substances.
Especially when adults indulge in the same things they find unhealthy for them.

society looks at one eight year olde child
precocious, reads history and fiction with equal gusto
common sense seems built in, will not touch the stove
and always looks both ways before entering the motorway

he learned to ride a tricycle
he learned to ride a bicycle with training wheels
and then with help and balance from an understanding big person

he wanted an electric bike, but his skills were deemed sketchy, and he was denied
so he stole his daddy's renault and went for a joy filled romp thru the countryside

nobody approved of this sort of behavior
he wasn't licensed

then he took a bus full of tourists from the netherlands and drove it thru chelsea
only hit a few things along the way, not too many zeros added to the invoice

then he snagged an ocean liner, driving a big ole boat!
i think it was the carnival princess ohmygawd
he was chuffed
and missed all the icebergs but one

then he decided to engage in locomotive engineering
and commandeered the braking controls on the steepest decline on the entire line
and the train rolled on

then all the adults in the room gave the keys to the rocketship to the child
and told him to have fun

we do not need to protect children from socials or the internet
we need to protect the internet and socials from the horrors presented by an influx of rugrats

dammit
i hate it when i'm always correct
