I went and saw "A Series of Unfortunate Events" yesterday.

Completely disappointed as I sat in the movie theater bored.
Contemplated walking out several times, then regretted that I didn't.

Anyone else have the same expirience?

Can anyone tell me what was supposed to be 'good' about this movie?

LOL. Don't you hate when that happens?

I walked out of "Hurly Burly" w\ Kevin Spacey, Sean Penn

I haven't seen it but I heard that Jim Carey overpowered it.

Rule of thumb:

Jim Carey playing his own characters = possibly passable
Jim Carey playing others' characters = save your $$$

Oh dear, I was hoping that it would be good, was looking forward to it. What is so bad about it?

There were several things bad about it:

1. Very simplistic plot. Within the first 15 minutes you can figure out what is happening and what is going to happen- not a single surprise from there on out.
2. Jim Carrey. His over-the-top rubber face gimmicks over and over and over and over. You know the exact same ones you saw in all the rest of his movies...

There is just nothing good about it. I was expecting an unpreditable story with a decent plot twist and maybe some humor. It's not funny, not surprising, not intelligent, not entertaining. By 30 minutes in to it, I was looking around the theater and looking at my watch.

The only thing positive I could possibly say about it is that they did a decent job on the Burton-style gothic look.

I went and read the reviews. Most people looking for entertainment killed it also. It seems the only people that liked it were the artsy people that loved the look of it and the costumes or fans of the books.

If you have a 8-12 year old that loves the books or if you're a gothic art enthusiast, go see it. Otherwise, you'd have more fun sitting in front of the theater for free and watching cars go by.

I saw the movie, hoping it would be something like Harry Potter, I was terribly dissapointed. I suspect I would have loved it if I were 10.

In truth, it is simply a kids movie, maybe a good kids movie, I don't know, I do not watch many kids movies. I'm not sure if it is my fault for thinking it would be reasonably enjoyable for adults or if they marketed it that way.

In any case, it was a waste of my time.

If you want to entertain a 12yr old, try Team America!

I've got the intellect of a 12yr old, and I loved it anyway. Loadsa puppets that walk funny, and sing. Cool songs about Pearl Harbour etc. And they even chucked in a classic from South Park, 🙂.

Even Rocky had a montage. OK, I'd best fade out, so it seems like this message has been really long to read .......................................................................................................................................

I was going to see a Series of Unfortunate Events, but I saw Team America for the second time. Extremely funny, and all actors are part of the Film Actors Guild. Therefore, you have Alec Baldwin (FAG), George Clooney (FAG), Susan Sarandon (FAG)...and even Matt Damon. Major FAG.

I must say that the best part of the movie for me was when leaving the theatre, my 9 year old said "the ending didn't match the book." Smart kid.

National Treasure is exactly what you expect it to be..
Decent action flick with a few plot twists. Nothing fanatastic or grand, but I was satisfied for the money I spent.

and I'm still pissed that I actually paid $7 to see 'Unfortunate Events'.
Was raving to all my co-workers about it yesterday....
