This is not true.

But you have given me a good idea on how to stop this in future, if not this time....

I had an idea, Russ, but it may not be very practical. I got to thinking about making an anology between using the site and renting an apartment. In this country it is very standard for there to be a "damage deposit" that is paid upfront. If you trash the apartment, you lose the deposit. Leave everything in order, you get it back. Just thinking aloud. Kirk

Way to go.

Glad that for once I may have made a 'useful' post.

Thanks Russ

i have a problem with this whole "money" thing-in that at present i have none whatsoever, and i'm meant to be sending my subscriptions through the post to chriss and russ...it's been a few weeks now, and they probubly won't receive it for another month at least! (i am the most unorganised person i know...😛) also-people have no reasurance that they'll get their money back, and also people without credit cards and who can't afford it can't post...:'(

Thank you for your support. My name is just an immensely comical anagram of my real name, Tom Ucker, and people should just deal with it. If people get offended by my name, they should not bother using the internet because there are no ...[text shortened]... ust tell me instead of going behind my back and getting me banned?
This is an community and each community decides it's standards as to what is acceptable or not according to what it wants to tolerate.

Part of that post was though. I'm not sure of the intrinsic workings of it, but the other sites I play at you can not hide. Once that computer is identified, you can create more than one account; but if you do it is restricted. I believe this is achieved through cookies "initially" and once multiple accounts is identified it is marked on the person's profile. Like I said, I'm not sure how it's done, but it works very well on the other sites.

Unless an individual has a static IP address on their ISP it will be difficult to block their access to a site. However, it should be possible to find out which ISP they are using and notify the ISP administrator. Most reputable ISPs have a policy of non-abuse or harassment, so if you can demonstrate that one of their users has been harassing your site they will be prevented from accessing the internet through that ISP.

If it's a student at a school or university using their direct internet access to harass your site most institutions will resort to disciplinary measures to stop a student from abusing their internet priveliges.
