Just curious,

how long would you leave a friendly, unrated game before claiming the skull?

Somebody has asserted to me that most players on here would claim the TO within a month, even if the skulled player had a message in his profile stating that he wouldn't have much of an opportunity to move. I disagree with the player.

And you?

Hi there Ragnorak

Claim the game the second the skull appears. People know there is a chance to send a reminder but why should you? The other guy/girl knows they have games to play. Grab 'em asap.

Well yes, but this is an unrated game. The only reason for claiming the win is to make managing your games easier. Rated games are a different matter.

I don't really see a reason why I should time him/her/xym out at all, even if it would take years. I might do it if he/she/xe were clearly losing and playing on would be boring. If I were clearly losing, I would wait until my opponent makes the next move (whenever that may be), and then resign. If I wouldn't be interested in playing on for some other reason, I would probably PM my opponent and discuss the matter.
