I think its nice to see the two finalist, with only one major leaguer between them. Amateurs showed the pro's how to play and execute as a team. I'm cheering for Japan, but it could go either way, Cuba I didn't think would make it this far. Japan has probably their two best pitchers ready to go, one is the submariner, and they're always difficult to hit against. Cuba on the other hand, used their two best yesterday to shut down the powerful Dominican lineup. Early edge has to go to the Japs. Should be a barnburner.

Considering the event was named about 100 years ago when few outside of the US played baseball as a publicity gimmick to increase interest, it's certainly understandable. The name of the event is now enshrined in baseball lore; while it may not be technically correct it's not, and should not, be changed.
but i was under the impression that the it got the name world series as the sponsor at the time was
"the World" paper
and it was a series of games
at least thats what a friend told me years ago
as a name now it not make sence but lots of cups and things don't make sence when taken out of context of the time they were created.
