With this new world classic they should change the name to the US series for MLB FINAL.
I'm glad the US is now out... I was pretty bent about the bad call vs. Japan that kept them in. The bad one with Mexico was just as bad.... bad.
I didn't expect US to win, I was thinking the Dominican. Very surprised how well Korea is doing... knew Japan had a good shot too.
It's good fun, and I'm not surprised by any results we might see. I'm not even sure why anyone would think the US should be a favorite considering how popular baseball is for latinos, hispanics and asians.

As Dominican I hope my team to win but i know will not be an easy task.
Originally posted by Sicilian SmaugThat is a somewhat erroneous statement. The World Series is played in the home ball park of the two teams playing in it. Only MBL teams can play in it. It would take a lot of money, time, and trouble to play with MBL teams from Japan, Mexico, and Cuba ect. .
Surely the US will win as they hold the 'World Series' every year. Who else could possibly compete?
Originally posted by Sicilian SmaugConsidering the event was named about 100 years ago when few outside of the US played baseball as a publicity gimmick to increase interest, it's certainly understandable. The name of the event is now enshrined in baseball lore; while it may not be technically correct it's not, and should not, be changed.
What other country (and in any sport )makes a league featuring teams just from that country and then calls it the "world series"? I find that ridiculous.
Kudos to both Korea and Cuba; neither was given hardly any chance of making the semi-finals. One game is very tough to predict in baseball; the worst major league teams win 33% of their games so anything can happen in the semis. The Dominicans will be heavily favored over the Cubans, while I still think the Korean-Japanese game is a toss-up. But it's certainly been more interesting and intense than I anticipated and it's sure better than watching ML exhibition games.
Originally posted by Boby FisherCan the same not be said for the other teams' hitters as well? Bottome line is I don't think it would matter when they played, the rest of the worl is catching up with the US in baseball, same as in hockey with Canada. This is the perfect time to hold this tourney, gives the major leaguers something to actually play for. Spring training is fine for conditioning, but to be in a game, or games of this importance is priceless. Heard comments that this was just exhibition ball, well try telling that to the players who are competing. This is exciting ball, and except for some bad calls, for the most part has been quite enjoyable. Still hope to see the Dominicans vs Japan in the final, with the Dominicans winning....but time will tell, enjoy and have a good day.

The Cubans have reached the finals of the WBC with a stunning 3-1 win over a Dominican Republic team which had Tejada, Pujols and Ortiz has the middle of their lineup. Kudos to them for one of the biggest upsets in international sports since the "Dream Team" US hockey team of the 1980 Olympics.
At this time does cubans players would be thinking they are the best in the world?
