I have developed a "thing" for vampire flicks and shows. I have noticed that there seems to be an endless array of these stories.
And, I have started to wonder about the symbolism of Vampires. There are several things which I have wondered about: the combination of intense sexuality and profound violence. The blood sucking for eternal life and the Christian blood drinking for eternal life.
Any thoughts?
In case, you are wondering why I am posting so much...I am home sick. I have been reading, visting RHP and sleeping.

(I believe that the edition is called 'Essential Dracula' or something
like that). It has copious footnotes -- some with explanations of
symbolism, some with corrections to Stoker's errors, some with
related vampire lore -- and several appendicies, one of which is a list
of every vampire-related movie (and maybe book...) through 1991.
It's a good read.

What's with all the farting and chanting in every post?
It's like you're drunk or something.
Originally posted by AynatI love vampires too. I know a bunch of cool vampire books. Try Companions of the Night by Vivian Vande Velde. Or the Last Vampire series by Christopher Pike. Try Real Vampires by Daniel Cohen.

Well, that's all for now.
Hope you feel better soon.

Originally posted by ToeI haven't read the book, but I thought the film was dire. A good vampire film worth watching is Shadow of the Vampire with John Malkovich and amongst others, Eddie Izzard.
And for a film, Near Dark was great. Queen of the Damned made a decent movie too: a case where the film is better than the book!
Good book for lore is Vampires, Burial and Death - Paul Barber which traces the cultural origins of the tales that gave rise to the Vampire myth.
Originally posted by StarrmanI have it on DVD sitting unopened as yet: a bargain £5 buy I've not had time to watch. Glad to hear its not likely to be a bad buy.

But before that there's Subway and Brazil to watch. Happy days.
