I am a quite fresh player and I happened to play with a 1-day timeout and no timebank.
I happened to have an urgency and I had to leave for a 7-hour trip. So the timeout passed.
The nice guy did not wait an hour. Did not send me an email reminder. Did not decide to consider the fact that he had never waited before, and that something must have happened.
He was badly losing. I was 3 moves from checkmate.
And he got the timeout win.
After that, he ridiculously changed his profile into another one which claimed that all ways are legal to get a victory.
I'm really disgusted by this behaviour. I've always waited at least a week before claiming a timeout win.
I know he acted regularly, but this is not correct.
I would really love to ostracize this guy.
Sorry for the probably unsuitable post, but I'm really p***ed off.

Originally posted by reader1107i'd have to agree with that. i personally only play 21 day t/outs with 28 day t/banks... (although i play 7 day games in tournaments and clans. gah!)

also-when you play 3 week games and get reminders after not moving for a day...well, you start to get irritated by move reminds 😛
Originally posted by YurtaI play 1 day timeouts only. If anyone goes over, unless they have sent a message, it's goodbye to them and on with the next game. When you only get 6 games you can't afford to wait for hours over the agreed time.
I usually play all days and I've always met correct players.
Plus, I've always been correct myself.
At least ONE reminder.
What kind of a victory is it?
If I was a subscriber with unlimited games, then I would not time them out at all though.
edit; it wasn't me. 🙂

Originally posted by YurtaYour opponent played within the rules. For this reason they should not be ostracised. If you consider their actions unsporting then you should not play them again.

In an over-the-board game, nobody would ever be ostracised for claiming a win on time-out.
In a correspondence game, because you can't see your opponent, you can't tell if they're just being slow or if they've had a heart attack and can't move. This is why you will always find the rules versus sporting behaviour argument going on until the end of time.
There is no right answer, only your view - hence ostracisation isn't fair.
btw: I blame the Thatcher's (cider) brewery 500 yards from my home for the wordiness of my answer.
