One thing that is gonna hold me back in becoming an airline pilot is my voice, I pronounce words for example, Square = skwale, air = ail, mirrer = mirale, etc.
Has anybody else here had this problem? if so have you learned how to pronounce right? I tried so hard to learn, but I cant,
Another thing Im trying to overcome is monotone talking
My dentist told me my tounge is tied, so I went to a speach specialist to see if they should cut it, she said that even though I was tounge tied, it wont affect how I pronounce words, another docter backed her up.
And for those of you who dont have this speech problem, you got allot to be thankful for, that we all take for granted
Originally posted by flyUnityMy oldest daughter was tounge tied, I had hers snipped but she still has problems with her speach to this day. The operation was done when she was 3 yrs old and she is now 10. She has been in speach therapy for years and is alot better than what she was. It's many hours of hard work and dedication with very slow results.

If it's something you feel you would like to persue then get a good speach therapist to suggest some practice exercises that you could try. And don't let a doctor decide for you if you would like the procedure done. It will give you the necessary movement you may need in order to pronounce certain letters properly. It will not make it an automatic solution to the problem but it may very well make it easier when applied to proper therapy techniques. Good luck and never give up on your dreams.
Originally posted by mokkowell that bad thing is that I cant afford to get a therapist, they are so expensive, and Im already spending more then Im making on school,

I wonder if there is a book, or an online website that would be able to help me

Its only like 10-15 words I cant pronounce.

Growing up I had a similar problem, and still do if I get tired or perhaps have one to many drinks. I strongly recommend reading out loud to yourself. Preferably something challenging that requires concentration to read and comprehend. I started with Shakespeare and Homer's The Odessey. Focus on your enunciation of individual words, think about how you want it to sound and reread the paragraph until you have comprehension. Ultimately, this will force the way you speak to be tied to your thinking mind rather than just to run on automatic. If you have trouble with a particular word try changing your pitch, using it in a different sentence or singing it. Yes I know that sounds stupid, put singing typically uses a different part of the brain than just talking. For example, many people with significant stutters can sing without faltering. One last thing, find a word with the letter 'r' that you can pronounce to your satisfaction and repeat it over and over, use it in sentences and slowly add other 'r' words to your spoken sentences.
Hope this helps... otherwise I don't want to be on a plane with you putting the 'landing geal' down.
