Totally off topic, totally preachy, but I had to share this with you guys. A friend of mine just tried a simple experiment on me. I live on the 3rd floor of an apartment block. He noticed that I don't have any fire alarms & we got in a discusion about it. He then stood up, looked around for 30 seconds then moved to by one of the doors and said 'I'm a fire. Get out of the flat'. I couldn't. Simply by standing there, arms by his side, I couldn't get out of the flat without touching him. He found 3 other spots in the flat that, if he stood there, if I was in bed or in the living room I wouldn't be able to get out past him. After thinking it through I realised I would be able to escape if I was in the back of the flat by jumping to the balcony, and then from balcony to balcony down four floors (it's 4 floors down at the back), but that was when I was thinking clearly, fully awake & not panicing. And if I ddn't fall.
I think I'll be getting some alarms. And maybe an escape ladder. And an extinguisher.
Sorry. Had to share.
Great post and really great advice!! People should be very conscious about how to get out of the house in case of fire. Specially from their bedroom and their kids room. Their kids should be trained in what to do as well because of the fact that the fire may prevent you from helping them. Very scary to think about, but it's better to be scared into planning an escape, than planning a funeral after the fact. 😉
