Phew, just hung in there today, just wondered if we are going to continue with the 2nd round onwards for predictions or does it stop after the group games?

Stops at the group phase, as far as I'm concerned. Although might organise a play-off if there is a tie.

Obviously anyone else could organise something similar for the knock-out stage, but it gets more complicated (unpredictable fixtures, etc.).

Ok then, I would like to organise a continuation but I have a couple of days off the net when moving so wouldn't be able to organise it. If anyone else can then great. 🙂

I'll do it.

It might be fairer to scratch the scores and run it as a separate competition, unless of course all the original entrants want to keep going into the knockout round.

Scratch the scores, scratch the scores, scratch the scores! 😛

Only joking. That would be an unfair demand on my behalf.

Personally I would like to keep the scores going, and that's not just because I am joint top, but because the world cup is a whole competition and I would like this to be aswell. 🙂 Thanks Freddie!

Are you a dab hand with Excel, or are you going to use pen and paper?

But say NicklasPersson wins the competion as advertised, then doesn't want to (or isn't available) to predict the second round.

You can't change the rules on people halfway through, unless they all agree.

I'd run it as a different competition, possibly with different scoring rules taking into account the fact there could be a draw at 90 minutes, yet a winner of the tie.

Keep the scores or scratch them, I'm in either way. I'm enjoying this a lot although I'm getting a little ticked at potential points vanishing in the last few minutes of some of these games. Thought I had Ivory Coast v S&M nailed down for three points this afternoon. Look out the window, look back at the computer screen and the three points are gone and game is over!

I'll message everyone entered and see if they mind carrying on into the later rounds.

As for Excel; I would have been able to do something like this a few years ago, but I don't know now. I'll have a go and if not it'll be pen and paper!

I could email you my spreadsheet, but it's more complicated that necessary and probably can't be easily converted unless you know what you are doing.

Wish I'd known about this. Argentina looked very strong today. I would not want to face them in a one-off. They had the Dutch on their heels for most of the second half, and their defense shut down every Dutch attack. Not a single legitimate shot at goal in the second half, and the Dutch midfield let down their side as well, from my seat.
That's the other reason for scratching - there may well be new entrants.
