This is a classic.

You don't need a key to the mailbox. Most residential mailboxes in America do not require a key.

If you were to open the mailbox, you would have found a pamphlet describing this game, which is called Zork. Google it.

More Zork.

And the line about being eaten by a grue is classic Zork.

I didn't expect to be in America. But I have figured out that it's all about a game called Zork anyway, thanks to the grue and the Urban Dictionary.

It is an offspring from the original Colossal Cave Adventure. When I took some basic programming in school, we covered this extensively, especially the Fortran version.

Today I guess it's called Interactive Fiction and there is an entire community surrounding it. They even have an online magazine, called XYZZY, which was a magic word in the original Colossal Cave Adventure.

I remember very little from my computer lessons at school (about twenty years ago), but I am quite sure we didn't cover any games. I remember we had to write a program that simulated a clock.

ripped it off a grue in a dark forbidden cave of questionable morals. I have a 95x95 version of it too, but had to resize for rhp. it was damn hard to get it all to fit under 32kb... should make something similar of my own, but I feel too lazy...
