Wasn't the best of album - Death to the Pixies?
Crushing all deceivers, mashing non-believers
never ending potency!
Hungry violence seeker, feeding off the weaker
Breeding on insanity!
Sisters Of Mercy - Floodland
To quote from amazon.co.uk:
"This album is the second long player released by the sisters - who for all intents and purposes are Andrew Eldeitch. Floodland is the greatest work from rock's most neglected talent. Forget the ball and chain 'goth' tag and instead concerntrate your attentions upon the work of a lyricist whose subtext's have subtexts and a (very) dry humour all of their own. From a first listen the stand out tracks are the powerful 'Lucretia' and the opereatic 'This Corrosion' co-produced by that old ham Jim Steinman (the track Meatloaf could never quite pull off) but repeated plays reveal 'Driven Like the Snow' as the album's high point. The song builds to an emotional climax of stunning intensity. Leave your prejudices behind and discover the work of an artist who proves that rock still has a lot to offer beyond the usual cliches."
Truly epic.

prefer some girls wonder by mistake but that just me....
I'd recommend:
Magazine: The Correct Use of Soap. Featuring Howard Devoto (vocals) & Barry Adamson (bass). Recorded in 1980, produced by Martin Hannett (produced Joy Division). The lyrics are funny but they bite hard; the rhythms are sinuous, insinuating (evil bass). "Song from under the floorboards" is one of the best tunes I've heard. This album is dirty and wicked and I love it. Do you want the truth or do you want your sanity?
I'd also recommend Joy Division's Atmosphere and Iggy Pop's Lust for Life, but I think you might have heard them a few times already.

Originally posted by ChakanDoolittle's great, but if you're looking for a first Pixies album, get Surfer Rosa, which comes packaged with the Caribou EP. This is the best the Pixies get, with songs like Where is My Mind?, Bone Machine, Cactus, Nimrod's Son, River Euphrates and on and on...so many classic tracks...
Doolittle is very cool as well...
Wave of mutilation was the best of... 🙂

Can't quite recall what it is - something dull.
As for a suggestion, what about King Crimson "In the Court of the Crimson King".
Sure, it's unfashionable prog rock, but it has Robert Fripp on guitar and is a classic of its genre.

Hokey cokey, this month, I am looking for a 'classic' album for my collection. An album that should be an absolute pre-requisite for any collection, something that you can always return to. It should be by a group/artist who is past the prime of his career or has ceased to make music for whatever reason, I don't want an album by any group who have been ...[text shortened]... r explain why, I won't consider albums that aren't backed up with reasons. Rec to the winner.

So imaginative in its lyrics - the tracks Epitaph, and Court of The Crimson King are tangible creations.
The first track 21st Century Schizoid Man has real punk attitiude and is still one of my favourite tracks probably 25 years after I first heard it.
Another great classic:
Deep Purple by Deep Purple
I really never took the time to get to know anything else by them - but this is amazing. Its a mix of rock, funk, great lyrics, and huge drums and medieval instruments!
