There’s a discussion going on over in debates about what makes a person Irish, Celtic, American etc.

My passport says “British”
Born in England
My surname is Scottish
My mother was Scottish and her parents and grandparents
My father was English but carried the Scottish surname.
I’ve got French and Norse ancestors (Depending on the accuracy of these ancestral search sites)
Blue eyes, almost blond hair (when I was young and had more of it!)

I think of myself as British, English.

How would you classify your own nationality?

Nah…I’m Canadian, though born in Scotland.

I am German, though my great-great-grandfather was an alien "Ein Ausländer" according to the church books. All other of my ancestors, of whom I know can be put as German (and Austrian, if that says anything in the 17th century). One ancestor of me emigrated to "Amerika"

I am Swedish, with a Norwegian father and a Swedish mother. I am an anglophile, I have loved the English language since my first lessons in the fifth grade at school.

I am British. My ancestors were all Irish. I was born in the part of Britain called England but I would never describe myself as English.

The state is soulless. My soul is stateless.

I have two adopted nationalities: German and Swiss.

I'm American, simple as.

My father's side of the family harkens back to England, they settled in the Philadelphia area, while my mother's side of the family started out in Germany, with English threads here and there. They settled in Missouri.

I was born in Australia and have never considered myself as anything but Australian. My father was born in Greece and became Australian by naturalisation. My mother's parents came from Sweden as small children and became Australian when their respective parents were naturalised. Australians don't usually put qualifiers on their nationality, unless they're descended from the original inhabitants and choose to specify their birth "country".

Alan Jones didn't always stick to this when he was sneering at some non-Anglo ethnicity or other on the radio! Ha ha.

genealogy
the final frontier
these are the conversations of the derelict denizens of the forum known as general

who's yer daddy?
and why did yer momma let him boink-a-doink?

i've never had a passport
i have a scottish surname
i was pleasantly surprised to find our clan still exists and has a tartan and everything
then again, that might not be a big deal, prolly everyone has a claim to a random weave of feltish wool
i bought a kilt so i could pretend to be my own ancestor
got a light tan one, with a sporran, to match my desert tactical boots
found out i was supposed to wear the thing commando
but i'm shy, so it hangs in the closet

momma (rest her soul) has a big ole book with lotsa names in it
turns out we're related to english royalty
200-300th cousins to the dang throne

didn't get an invite to the latest shindig tho
oh well
