Here in the US we have great lanes, and very crappy lanes. I won't go to any lanes that are below my high standards.
I was wondering what country you think has the best bowling lanes, and why. If they are better than the lanes here in the US, you can bet I'll be moving.

Apparently, commercial bowling alleys wax it such that the ball drifts towards the centre.
Is this true?
Do you want an easy lane or a pro lane?

Such names are: Cheetah, Cobra, etc.
I think most bowling alleys now like there patrons to be able to throw high scores. With this being the case, many establishments oil the lanes as a "wall" which means oil is laid on the broad center along the lane but intentionally not oiled on either side near both gutters. The idea is for someone who hooks (puts a spin) on the ball to roll their ball starting near either gutter. Because there is no oil out there, the ball will immediately grip and start to hook but once it reaches the oil in the center of the lane, the ball will cease to hook and hopefully glide right towards "the pocket" (for right handers, this would be the 1-3 pin, lefties 1-2).
I will go out on a limb and say professional bowlers want "easy" lanes and if that's true an easy lane is much more fun than a difficult oil pattern used on the professional tour.

hahaha I just came home from my bowling league... my average today was 12 pins over my normal league average... now the challenge: Today I bowled 104, 168 and 130... what is my normal average? Imaginary cookie for the person who wins 😉
And Phlab: Certainly not Germany... the only decent lanes in the whole city are in the american military community here 😉
Angie 😀
Britain's lanes are rubbish in general. However I used to work for USAF on RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire and the lanes they had there were great, clean, shiny and well maintained. And the guys who bowled there were pretty amazing, I saw one guy bowl 12 straight strikes in the annual tournament. They tried to teach me, but my fingers were too weak to get any spin and they'd ache for ages after a game. Shame really, cos I coulda had all the practice I wanted. I coulda been someone, I coulda been a contender... err... yeah...
