Florida just passed a new law - They said that people have "The right to defend yourself"... and the way this law works is like this: Before, a person had to prove that they were in danger and could not exit the dangerous scene. But now with the new law (incidentally by Jed Bush), if any person feels that they are threatened then they have the right to defend themselves on the spot!
What does that mean? And what will happen in society? That's what I want your opinions on.
Wow, I suppose this is time to blow things way out of proportion. So here goes.
Ahhhh!!! Your avatar is threatening! *Pulls out a gun and shoots Arrakis*
In court a few days later(Judge played by Harrison Ford, while only Brad Pitt could do Fatty justice.)
Judge: Did you shoot him?
Fatty: Yes, your honor.
Judge: Why would you do such a thing?
Fatty: Because his avatar was menacing.
Judge: Well, did you feel you were threatened?
Fatty: Yes, your honor.
Judge: Case dismissed.

The UK media is anti any Bush
Are you telling me that Rupert Murdoch's "The Sun" and Sky News is anti bush? Surely he is the bush's biggest supporter. Just because the uk have better media outlets, which prevent Murdoch from getting away with spewing the lies that he does on fox, doesn't mean that the uk media is "anti any bush".
You sound like the guy who would label a standup comedian as being anti american/unpatriotic if they quoted bush as part of their act.

If we take the whole media to mean only Sky and the Sun then we are lost as a nation. All the main broadsheet news papers in the UK have carried editorial that shows strong concerns and damning comment on Bush's domestic and foreign polices. Outside the "press" many of the TV networks and internet news services show a stong anti bush / anti war feeling, simply as by their nature they reflect British society in generall. So you can "completely disagree" with me, but I would suggest you are wrong in this view point.
Anyway my point to Arrakis was meant to convey that the British media tends to be sensationalist, particually where there is a chance to knock America and that they have portrayed this new law almost as a joke. Cowboy Bush...a return to the wild west... look at those stupid Americans what have they done now... I am sure there must be more to this than meets the eye and that was the question I was asking.
I would resist making a public assessment of my views on America or the current American Government until you either know a bit more about me, or you have a more complete interpretation of one statement I have made that you have disagreed with.

Well, things are already bad enough w/o that law.
In Flint, Michigan last year a guy went to trial for murder. Here's what the case involved:
The property owner and his wife went over to the man living in the home they sold to him and told him if he didn't pay his payments (he was 3 months behind), that he would be evicted. So the man pulled a gun and shot the owner in the living room. The wife ran down to the basement trying to get away and he ran after her and shot her to death too!
Then he called the police. So the trial went on and the jury said that the man felt threatened in his home... AND THEY DECIDED HE WASN'T GUILTY! Can you believe that!!!!
So I'm thinking if people can get away with murder before a law like that was passed it'll be even easier now.

Well in my opinion we have lost the america we used to know, its not the same place anymore. I think the frothing at the mouth right right government now controlled by the christian fundamentalists are having a field day and I think 9/11 played right into their hands with new laws restricting our freedoms more than in the last 100 years. You can now see bible belt states not being able to teach evolution because the school boards are fundamentalists and don't want anything taught that goes against the pre-existing beliefs since according to them evolution is only an unproven theory and god has shown us the way the bible tells us so. Whatever happened to the concept of separation of church and state? When the President of the United States gives speeches invoking the bible where does that take us? Towards religious freedom? Freedom of speech? What about stem cell research? Fundamentalists would rather some 6 year old kid die from lukemia rather than harvest stem cells from a miscarraige that might give the kid new life. Personally I think most of the religions on earth are the scurge of mankind, causing more deaths in the name of "god" than any other single cause, look at how many wars have started in the name of some religion or other, usually involving Christians, Jews or Muslims and throw in some Hindus too. So when our government heavily leans towards fundamentalist thinking it can only lead to more war and less freedoms leaving america more like Iran where for instance they have just banned the sale of seedless watermelons because it didnt reproduce sexually (they are cloned) and therefore eating a seedless watermelon obviously leads to homosexuality and we can't have that, can we, so no more seedless watermelons here.
That unfortunately is not a joke, it is really happening there. How long will it be before crap like that starts happening here in america, the land of "freedom". Its no wonder the reputation of the US has gone down the toilet. Which country will be next on the hit list? Syria? Iran? Egypt? If we attacked Iraq because it was the "right thing to do" why don't we attack Sudan where millions of people are killed because they are the wrong tribe? Why stop there? why not just take over china too, they are repressive, they want Taiwan, the bastian of freedom. Is this where the thinking in the upper realm of the US government is leading? I have no intentions of leaving the US, been here too long now and my efforts are to stop this religious repression growing here.
I think it is the most disgusting trend in the last 100 years.
