Ooh, I'm all for it! I think we should get rid of all those messy "real" trees and set up vast pine forests of artificial Christmas trees. Now THAT would be a real growth industry, not like this logging business. In fact, if you really want to get rid of illegal logging then just get rid of all those darn trees once and for all. If there aren't any trees, then there can't be any illegal logging. Problem solved! 🙄

What about in regions with few other sources of income?

Come on, do I have to spell it out for you? Instead of just letting real trees grow unaided on their own for years before cutting them down, people would go to work in the artificial Christmas tree factories. Since there would be no more real trees, there would be a huge demand for artificial ones. Hundreds of tree factories would spring up. Unemployment would be eradicated. Vast forests would be replanted...albeit with artificial trees. But I'm sure they could make 'em nearly as good as the old ones.

I am in favor of old growth logging, so long as it is done responsibly and in areas in which reduction of old growth is preferable for proper forest management.
