That is of course the USCF rules on correspondence chess, those elsewhere may differ.

Although I do very much like rule 2.
What happened to the good old knock down drag out matches?

What does that mean? (I kinda know what it might means?)

Rule #2 is to be courteous. i.e. Your not allowed to punch your opponent in the mouth for a good move.

Some of those Fisher-Spassky, Cold War matches were right on the edge of violence with all the psych outs going on.

You're right. I looked up the official rules for correspondence chess.

It's right there under rule number 3.

I can also see where internet chess is also like a live match. It's something between the two (correspondence and live match play).

Perhaps they should consider "no book or periodical" tour ...[text shortened]... for the responses. I definitely learned something about chess at this site from this thread.
I play the Sicilian Dragon. I play enough games on this site that I will always have at least a couple of Dragon games going at a time. So if opening books and references were banned when could I study the Dragon to improve my play?

Well between moves obviously. Perhaps there could be a proximity detector. You can't look at a book if you're within 10 feet of the comp.

Obviously databases and books are allowed in cc. We play here to improve, this is'nt blitz, nor is it a tournament for high stakes. It's scholars chess, that's the nature of this game.

I read chess books and I study databases all the time. Since I play here everyday, and I always have games ongoing, it does'nt make sense to say I can't study while I'm playing.
