Alright I was 6 when I left the mother country some 30 some-odd years ago to venture to the US, and can remember going to Strafford (?) upon Avon to see the horses and red coats and dogs (and drunks) go off into the woods after coyotes (I know foxes)......
How did the day derive? What did foxes do wrong to be chased?
My kids guess that it's the day you BOX all the stuff that Santa got you that doesn't fit and bring it back for returns....
Appriciate the lesson....

I read it was the 26'th... the day the servants all got their gifts. They get a box with cash from their employer. They are busy working on the 25... and get the next day off to see what they got inside the box.
Hope to hear more info about the day, this is info I read in a book on the back of my father's toilet about a month ago!

A merry Xmas to you all.
In Australia, Boxing Day now is a time for watching the cricket in the sun and kicking back with a few cold ones...
l think the historic meaning had something to do with the poorer classes having a day of rest and staging physical jousts (a form of boxing)
Cheers,
Martin
Is the custom in my country. Xmas day we get crappy presents we would never buy for ourselves, eattoo much, get paralytic drunk with cheap booze and try to be nice to our family. Next day is stinking hot, we have a hangover, our crappy presents are all broken, we realise we have spent all our money on our stupid family we hate, and the family are all still hanging around trying to drink our beer and eat the left-over turkey.
So - we argue with stupid family. they argue back, and we have to punch the stupid ones a few times.
And that is why we call it Boxing day.
Must be different in civilised country.
