I think songs depend upon time, and are relative.

Mozart wrote some good "songs", as did Liszt and Beethoven, Mahler and Elton John and Michael Jackson, Rush, The Doors and Gershwin and the BeeGees with and for Barbra Streisand.

😀

The best song ever is the one you relate to for yourself, and you own personal taste and rhythm.

Saying Greengay is grunge is an insult to grunge... If you want to give them a genre then call it "Idiots who play instruments and spew meaningless words in the form of a song"

Alice in Chains is the essence of grunge.
first of all, i said they were post grunge, secondly Alice in chains are country and western, cowboy jive turkey!

Yes indeed, but its roots are punk, Cobain stated that was his reason, attempting to
keep the punk ethos alive, other post grunge bands can also trace their roots to punk,
Greenday for example.
Cobain hated the word 'grunge'.

yes, i believe it to be possible, he had a conflict of interests, here he was, trying to
keep the punk ethos alive and millions of people were buying his records and making
him the very antithesis of what he did not want to become, somebody's hero. Mmmm
reminds me of an SLF song, Nobody's Hero, anyhow, Courtney killed him and done a
runner with the dosh! so what does it matter now.

It prolly matters to Kurts family and close friends, but no, not really otherwise.

The only thing you need remember is, that for better or for worse, Mudhoney were the origonal (international) "grunge" band.

Without Mudhoney there'd be no Nirvana. Probably.

Without Mudhoney perhaps another band would've stepped up and played the "mudhoney role" in the evolution of rock music. Perhaps not. But Mudhoney definately paved the way for Nirvana. In the U.S. and here (in Australia). I'm not sure of their influence in Europe

Mudhoney started using two electric guitars with the WORST distortion effects ever compiled, and made it somehow poppy a bit, too.

It really is that alternative use of the distortion pedal that "grunge" ever came about more than the musical style. Their style was punk as was their presence on stage (especially Nirvana, very punky)

Without the Pistols we'd all be worshipping the self-proclaimed rock Gods of the seventies!
