What is the general forum for?

it's recently been discovered that a certain persistently pestilent poster thinks it's about the length of his threads.

it's a good question, and one that might be hard to answer in a satisfactory way. what i would like to see is genuinely intelligent discussion of substantive issues (as opposed to pompous posturing), together with lots of light-hearted wit and banter (as opposed to mere idiocy). i think that a degree of ironic inanity is to be encouraged (as opposed to naive inanity). i know that there are many who choose to start substantive threads elsewhere, simply because of the tard factor here - and the tards then complain about the lack of substantive threads. finally, i would hope that people would not attempt to dominate the forum just to gratify their own ego needs.
