-Removed-i think you are conflating two distinct questions here:
1. what is GF for?
we might ask: what function does the GF perform (if any); what need does it fulfill (if any)? or we might seek enlightenment from Russ and Chris, the architects of GF. did they have some specific view of the way GF ought to evolve? has it conformed to their view, or is it - as i suspect - a twisted, dark, mocking parody of their original design?
2. what constitutes success for a GF poster?
is it, as one particular poster seems to think, the number of threads you have on page one, or the average length that your threads reach, notwithstanding that most of the content may consist in rebukes to the OP? is the concept of individual success even meaningful in this context, or is it only the forum itself that can succeed or fail? if this is the case, what are the criteria defining the success or failure of the forum? and is it, in fact, succeeding or failing?
