Under these conditions: A newly invented time machine can take a singer and guitar or other small instrument to any place and any time. What singer of our time could maybe not be just stared at if taken back to say, 1700 England or 1800 USA?, or 2200 USA.I am thinking someone like Joan Baez could cut the mustard here, simple guitar accompaniment, great voice, would be understood in old England or the US in 1700 just as well. As opposed to Frank Sinatra, Elvis, Madonna, the Judds, Elton John. Who else could possibly make this short list?

Originally posted by huckleberryhoundOf course he would not get help from electric instruments, he only gets to take himself and a small instrument, in his case a flute, that would work, but could he have a real audience 200 years ago or 200 years from now? I was thinking about Joan Baez because she sings such old songs like the Child ballads and such, like Greensleeves, that song could be sung at any time and pretty much any place in the english speaking world. What would you envsion Anderson doing? I know he did Bach's Bouree but how well would that be received in 1600 when he jazzes it up so much?

May the birds of paradise fly up your nose
May an elephant caress you with it's toes.
We actually sang that as a punk version in one of the bands i played in as a kid.
You have to think more universal than that.
