What Symbol is this?! (messed the title up, dang it!)

Anyone know, see my avatar. (Chinese Symbol) It is on a friend of mine's grave, but I don't know his parents, and not sure they would know anyway...

My parents know how to speak, write, and read Mandarin(Chinese) so I asked them what this symbol means. They said it could mean a few things: road, reason, way, speak,and pronounce. I hope this will help you out.🙂
