I'm home ill. Yesterday and today (who would have guessed by the amount of posting I'm doing??).
My girlfriend tells me it's a flu, but I'm 97.54% sure it's Ebola. I have all the symptoms. I'm sure.

Anyway, when I'm off ill (which doesn't happen very often, because I eat a non-vegetable diet) I get all nostalgic and such. And this morning my nostalga turned towards two 'experiences' from my youth.

The first, which has nothing to do with the question being posed, is why everytime I hear Boney M's Sonny, I see deep brown and cigarette stained yellow colours.
A sub-question to this is obviously: Why on earth do I keep hearing Boney M songs???

Anyway, to the point at hand, nostalga nr. 2:
When I was 6, 7 or 8 I lived near Edinburgh in a little place called Penicuik (which sounds a lot like the Dutch word for pancake, incase you're interested). This would be from 1977 to 1979 roughly.
Penicuik is totally uninteresting besides one fact. The snowfall was tremendous. Maybe it was because I was small, but I remember the snowing being extremely deep, year after year after year.

My brother and I went to the cinema every Saturday afternoon. This was a major undertaking for us, because we lived up a hill (don't forget, this is how I remember it, it may be child's view of reality) which was very high with a couple of long and winding roads down to the center of town. My brother and I would walk on our own to the cinema each Saturday and would be 'away' for hours.

I remember seeing Star Wars for the first time. Superman for the first time and we must have seen a good 50 or 60 films during this period. Most of them not really worthwhile (they don't stick out in my mind, basically).

What I also remember is that, quite often, there were two films in one go. A shorter film first and then the main feature. Can anyone verify this? It sounds so weird.

So, one day we saw a film and this is the film I want named!
If anyone can help, please do!

It starts off in the desert. A man and a woman are on a motorbike being chased by giant scorpions (sounds promising, doesn't it?). The woman falls off the back (obviously she wasn't riding it, this was the 70's) and I think the man doesn't go back to pick her up (not sure on this one).

The next thing I remember is that there's two large bus/truck like contraptions riding through the desert. They fold in the middle like a harmonica. They are green and one of the buses perishes in a sand storm.

It's not much to go on, but I hope some one recognises it enough to name it.

Oh yes.
EAT YOUR HAT OUT SHERLOCK HOLMES!!!!

I remember posting this very same question on another message board (the dark tower) many years ago. So, I went back and checked that message board's archives. To my suprise, I could actually locate the thread (15 november 2000). Someone had seemingly answered my question on another board...one that no longer exists. So the name still eluded me.

But, I made a comment in that thread stating: "I did enjoy him in the A-team though."

So, I went by IMDB.com and checked out the A-team's actors....and in 1977 George Peppard (Hannibal) played in a film called "Damnation alley." Which title doesn't really ring a bell. But it is staged in an apocalyptic world and does have giant scorpions in it (and giant cockroaches seemingly).
There are no big green buses with harmonica like structures to be seen in the photos though....

I'll see if I can rent it this afternoon, and because you are all so interested, I'll let you know if it is the film I mean.

I on;y remember 1 seeing 1 film where this happened, which was Sleeping Beauty which has a 15 minute film about otters before it. I think it used to be really common but died out suddenly 20 years ago

The plot summary for Damnation Alley at http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075909/ says:

A small group of survivors at a military installation who survived World War 3 attempt to drive across the desolate wasteland to where they hope more survivors are living. Hopefully their specially built vehicles will protect them against the freakish weather mutated plant and animal life and other dangers along the way.

It sounds like the one. It's got specially made vehicles and mutated animal life.

I have stumbled upon a problem.
None of my local video stores have the film...

Bummer.

I could probably buy it on the internet, but considering the reviews it seems to get...I dunno.

The cheapest one I can find at amazon.com is $27.50. I wouldn't pay that much for any movie, let alone one of that calibre.

Shavi, my friend. It sounds as though there is a good reason you can't find it. It sounds as though the level of suckage for this film would be quite high....
😀

The movie you speak of was indeed "Damnation alley" the reason he did'nt go back for the woman was because she was a mannequin. This is a horrible movie not even worth 2.97.

Sorry I missed this thread earlier.
