Everyone knows the Leonardo da Vinci drawing of 'Ventruvian man' (man with arms and legs outstretched in a circle). Da Vinci's idea was that your height is supposed to be the same as the distance between your middle fingers when your arms are held outstretched.
Try this test -
Get someone to mark your height on a door frame, then put your left middle finger on the floor (where the door frame meets the floor) and mark the place where your right middle finger reaches (as high as you can up the door frame without your left middle finger leaving the floor).
(both of your shoulders should touch the door frame if you're doing it correctly).
Your 'ape span' is the difference between your hieght and your span. For Ventruvian man (and most of the population) this is 0 (i.e. same),
For me, I have a positive 6 inch (i.e. the distance between my middle fingers with arms outstreteched is 6 inches greater than my height).
