Now that we live in a Supermarket world, where paying a truckers wage and for petrol is a cheaper means of storage than having big warehouses everywhere, a lot of the fruit and veg we get has been picked maybe 1-2 weeks before it gets to the supermarket, in which time it loses a lot of its nutritional goodness.
Also, some people have trouble extracting ...[text shortened]... c of 1918 (year?) because their diet was high in echinacea, a herb high in flu fighting ability.
Why would fruit and vegatables lose their nutrition this way? I think this is a myth. Fruits and vegatables lose nutrition when you cook them.

Water soluble Vitamins like Vit C, are totally destroyed by boiling, but even leaving an apple or orange lying around a few days at room temperature reduces the vit levels considerably. Something that has not yet been mentioned in this thread (as far as I can see) is the importance of stress. Tension (even negative thoughts) have a physical effect on your body, never mind what you eat! The science of psycho-neuro-immunology (PNI) studies the effect of mental attitude on health, and it has proven significant correlations. You may have heard of even laughter therapy, which has had a statistically significant result in terminally ill patients!

A lot of good information has been brought forth and good going to all of you.
I would suggest if you eat in MODERATION (don't ever eat till you feel like your going to bust!). Stay away from "junk food (Twinkies, Debbie cakes etc.) and fast food". Also, it's a good idea to stop drinking soda pops of all brands. If you must have your soda, drink diet. After about 4 weeks you will get used to it and a regular Coke will taste funny to you. I'm not saying it will taste bad, but you will definately notice the added sugars. I would also avoid drinking sweet tea.
Try to exercise regularly (at least 3 times a week), I would suggest walking with a friend etc. Have a goal in mind and increase it as your body starts adjusting to the "new change". I can promise you with a pretty good degree of certainty, that when you stay on your routine, and then stop walking or exercising, that you will feel sluggish and tired.
I took this advice when I was weighing 327 lbs. I now weigh 280lbs.
Good luck with whatever works best for you and your lifestyle.
I went into a store that's called "FOOD STORE"... yeah, I live in the U.S. and apparently this is a franchise. Anyways, what I want to say is that as I walked around the store 'looking for FOOD', that THERE WAS NO FOOD IN THE STORE! <GASP!>
The store only had candies, sugar drinks, chips & dips... NO REAL FOOD! 😠
All the so called "food" in this store contained no nutrients! THe sad part is that most people who want to 'get some food', don't understand the difference between nutrients and a sugar high.
