Excellent advice; I would add friends and/or trusted colleagues to that advice also.

Dear drewnogal, now and then at the close of day try listening to some soothing music such as this lullaby which I hope you'll enjoy. ~Bobby

I would say it is just mediocre advice, but it's all I've got...

Nothing ever makes sense - just don't dwell on it.
    Easier said than done 🙂

A glass of white wine in front of tv before bed helps.

I find that alcohol of any kind ~ give the necessary excess ~ helps to make nothing make sense but I'll admit I sometimes sleep in the lounge and don't always make it to my bed, so kudos to you.

Alcohol enables you to not care that you can't make any sense out of things.
There is some beauty in that at times 🙂

Do what you can regarding things you can control and don't sweat those you can't.

You're more than welcome, drewnogal. There's one additional suggestion I'll post later today or tomorrow.
In summary, focus on your overall life accomplishments rather than disappointments along the way..

One of "your overall life accomplishments" as a gifted writer was achieving both the 3rd and 1st Top Honors
    in the "2015 RHP Prose" Competition. Here's Silverstriker's announcement (on 08 Mar '15):Thread 163295

"Well we got there - thank you for the people taking time to read the fantastic pieces of writing provided by the talented writers
on this website - it has been another enjoyable competition... now for the top three and the authors announced:

3rd with 25 points Frankie by drewnogal
2nd with 30 points The Life of Detective Deluse by mike169
and the winner with 32 points is Lilac by drewnogal

All hail the new champion and well done to all the writers."

I'd encourage you to reflect on the concluding lines of the poem

“The Gift” by John Ciardi Thread 155045

"He noted - with some surprise at first -
that strangers could not tell he had died once.
He returned to his post in the library, drank his beer,
published three poems in a French magazine,

and was very kind to the son who at last was his.
In the spent of one night he wrote three propositions:
That Hell is the denial of the ordinary. That nothing lasts.
That clean white paper waiting under a pen

is the gift beyond history and hurt and heaven."
    ______________

drewnogal, life itself is a gift unlike any other. You have the character and courage to overcome
all obstacles and adversities along the way to realize your own maximum happiness. ~Bob

Premise "GF" refers to the Red Hot Pawn General Forum.

John Ciardi's phrase "clean white paper waiting under a pen" provides an understated metaphor for the wellbeing, personal privacy
and freedom to exercise life options which include though are not limited to the creative process involved in writing poetry

I hit the wrong smiley on that one. It should have been 😞

What I was trying to say (but did not do so very well...) is that sometimes (for me, anyhow) savoring a glass of wine at the end of a tough day, is a much appreciated way to relax and forget about things ever so briefly....

But I realize many struggle with alcohol issues so this was just a crappy, insensitive post by me altogether. I apologize.
