In my youth MAD magazine published an article on new ways to make cigs so smokers would stop. One was to insert a metal rod down the middle of the cig attached to a metal ring where your lips went. As you smoked the heat would transfer from the rod to the ring and how long could you take the heat before burning your lips? Another was to put explosive charges at random in every cig. You could smoke as long as you dared, but chanced getting your nose blown off. 😛
Originally posted by mikelomI've been off chewing tobacco for going on 12 years. I agree with that statement Mike. You've got to get your head right to beat tobacco. I had quit in the early 80's and started again. When I met my wife to be I stopped using it around her, that helped. Then my dentist told me I was showing the precursory symptoms. And then at that time they had these scare campaigns on TV and radio. So that got my head right. Every Dec. 24rth is my anniversary and I celebrate it. I think that's one thing about kicking a habit (one that does not require medical care that is), you have to celebrate short victories, then a little longer, a little longer, and eventually you are celebrating years.
Best invention to help you stop smoking?
Your brain.
I used mine. I thought about stopping, planned it AND STOPPED.
That's all it takes. Planning and a will are all mental things. Only weak puffs can't control their insatiable desires in craving bad habits 😛
Edit: a male oriented thread 😉
My best wishes to anyone trying to quit. You can do it. Hang in there.

Oh good......loosens pants...grabs a beer....plops in front of the tv....scratch..scratch...
Edit2: Definitely a male oriented thread.
There is another new thing out that imitates a cigarette. It even produces steam that comes out of your mouth. It has a battery in it. It sounded like it had tobacco, too, but the inner workings does away with the nicotine. I have always wondered why people start smoking in the first place. It stinks, they experience nausea at first, it is expensive, their breath smells terrible, it is addictive, causes peridontal disease and loss of teeth, and cancer. Why then? Anyone care to share this with a non-smoker?
Originally posted by ale1552I have always wondered why people start drinking in the first place. It doesn't taste good and has to be an acquired taste, doesn't it? In fact, to me booze stinks. It also causes nausea, but then blackout and if you don't stop there then DEATH. It is as expensive as smoking, also causes disgusting breath, is addictive, causes psychiatric and physical disorders too long to list but which include loss of teeth, pancreatic and liver cancers, nerve end destruction and of course bad farts. Why then? 😉

Well, duh. It's fun?
(well non-carcinogenic the last time I looked. I guess the science world will soon be anouncing that sex is bad for us.)
