Hi folks π
I've been a little concerned recently by the cost of my broadband. I'm with BT and it is costing me around £100 every three months. This is the cost of the Broadband and the connection fee (which i believe is about £12-14 a month). So, doing the math i'm paying out about £35 a month in total.
Is this expensive in the grand scheme of things? I'm not really overly concerned whether i have a super fast connection, 90% of my Internet use is spent on this site which is pretty much text based. If anyone knows of a way to cut this bill (i'm sure it must be possible, BT can't be the cheapest) then please let me know. £100 isn't a massive bill but i figure if i could cut it down to £70 it'd be a lot easier to deal with when it arrives. I seem to always have big expensive plans whenever it comes through the letter box. π
Thanks in advance... π

IF you want my advice, make sure you get a package that includes VOIP/Internet telephone services. The call charges are lower than normal, they usually give you a free phone for it and most calls are free after 18:00. Which means you'll end up paying practically nothing for calls and only the phone line rental (about £8). As for the actual package, I strongly recommend NOT choosing one of the little cheaper companies; the service is rubbish and you'll spend half your time calling their support team on a premium rate number. Go with a larger, recognised company; it'll save you money and hassle in the long run.

17.99 per month
Broadband
VOIP phone
Mobile phone package
You don't get TV as part of it, but you'll struggle to beat the deal.
Edit: although I'm not so sure it's on sale on those terms now! http://freebb.orange.co.uk/offerinfo/
Unless you're a 'super surfer', whatever that means, the actual speed is a bit of a 'con' as all broadband is a contended service anyway. (The more users on at the time, the slower it becomes.)
What's more important to those of us who download quite a lot(!?) is to have no limits, otherwise once you hit it, you go back to dial up speed until the start of the next month, or whatever period etc.
For instance, I'm on half a meg, unlimited. Ok, it doesn't sound much, but I've been on several so-called 8megs and I can hardly spot the difference. My screen is as instant as anyone else's. However, the fast speeders often have a download limit... this defeats the object somewhat.

Try a web site like moneysupermarket.com (or similar) - I always find reading the reviews a good indicator. BT may give a good connection speed, but they aint the most competitive and their customer service (should things not work out) is shocking. Unless you have hours on your hands to put the call centre on speaker phone π

Which option are you on with BT? Sounds like Option 3 by what your paying, you may be able to switch to Option 1 depending on your contract.
Broadband becoming cheaper these last couple of years has unfortunately had a bad effect on the market. ISP's are going bust and service is generally getting worse.
I'd stick to BT, Plus Net (who are owned by BT now), Zen (good but expensive), Madasafish (small but very good reports).
I have TalkTalk and contrary to popular belief, after the first couple of weeks of teething troubles they've been good.
For around £20 a month which includes free land line calls [except to mobiles and premium/porno lines] and that also takes care of your BT line rental charge [about £10 a month]
Up to 8 mb speed
Best deal I ever did.
