How come we say America and Americans when we really mean USA and USA... sans?

😕

Ok, I think I understand now.

But how come it's called the United States of America, when it's not really all of America?

Why not United States of North America? Or better yet: "United States of Middle North America, a Slice of the Most Northern Part of North America ...[text shortened]... ay. Just one happy world of USes everywhere.

😕

No, wait! USes kinda rhymes with...
But then what are you going to call the United States of Mexico? The Other US?

Just to add to the chaos...

Mexico's full name is "Estados Unidos Mexicanos" (The United States of Mexico).

I prefer to refer to them as The Fourth Reich, or the Fourthies, for short.
What kind of Reich doesn't control Germany?!

I think it should be required that the "Imperial March"(Darth Vader's theme) start up whenever an American enters a room in any farty little foreign country he's visiting.

Dah-Dah-Dah, Dunt-Da-Dah, Dunt-Da-Dahhhhhhh !!!!

Followed by the respirator noise.

"We" being shorthand for "Australians" and possibly "rest of world" here:

We call China China, China calls China ThePeoplesRepublicOfChina.

We call USA America (only because it's easier to say Americans than USans), USA calls USA TheUnitedStates or somesuch.

We call UK TheUK (because all the bits are getting muddled now, does it still include Scotland and Wales and Northern Ireland?) and we call its people Brits for the same reason. UK calls itself TheUnitedKingdom.

I wish all you guys would get decent short names for your countries .... 🙂

I actually had no idea? That's what it's called? But, personally, I believe? And all my friends agree? That we should help them? And our education? We could get better? And I also think, such as, we can call it UG? For United Gringos? And also, such as? I can point it out on the map? 🙄

The above was in no way an attempt to ridicule your question, for it is indeed a good one that caught me by surprise. Really? It's called the United States of Mexico?

How about just Mexico?

Actually, it's an excellent example of what the founding fathers (or whomever came up with USA) should have done. Find a good name for the country and call it the United States of that. I think. Such as. And so on.

Just like the word Mexico is in Nahuatl (though no one seems to know exactly what it means), the USAans can take an Apache or Sioux word, right? The eagle is the national symbol, and eagle in Apache (http://members.tripod.com/~Kayitah/page2.html) is cikala, so:

* drumroll *

The United States of Cikala!

What a great name! 😏

Cikalaians live in Cikala, yes? 🙂

Edit: Sorry, that's Lakota. I googled Apache, dammit. 😕 In Apache it's itsá (http://www.native-languages.org/apache_animals.htm). So:

* drumroll *

The United States of Itsà!

Itsàians live in Itsà, right? 🙂

Edit: Or maybe not. 😞 It's hard naming a country! 🙁

It's really simple, though. The country called United States of America, should be renamed to:

*drumroll*

Canada-Mexico Midland

They could us the simple shortened version: CMM and their people could be refered as seememians.

Solved! 😵

You're welcome.
