In my country, one type of news item always seems to be couched in the same vein, e.g. " Three teenagers were killed last night when the stolen car in which they were travelling, failed to take a bend and crashed"..... or, "A 28 year old sickness beneficiary is in hospital this morning after his car went out of control on loose metal and slid 100 feet down a bank into a river"
The reports invariably seem to put the responsibility on the car. How are these incidents reported in your country?

Similar. In the U.S. news media it seems that practically everything bad that happens is either blamed on (1) an SUV, (2) a firearm, or (3) the Bush administration. Extra credit when they can hit more than one of those targets with a single news story. It grows tiresome.

Often, but not always. Not every accident story is as poorly written as the two you cite.

In our litigious world, news organizations have learned to cover their behinds. If they reported that someone was blind drunk and that caused the accident, and the car was later found to be at fault, they'd get their fannies sued in a heartbeat. So news stories are always couched in such a way as to avoid casting blame. Ever notice how the people always "allegedly" do a crime?

What next - why blame the murderer when it was a bullet/knife/rock that killed the person?

Saying "the car spun off the road", etc. is not blaming the car, it's just describing what happened. This thread sucks.

Don't blame the thread. It didn't do anything. It's the posters in the thread that are responsible for the suck factor

OK that's funny. I don't care where you're from, that there is funny. And true.
