I have seen Bela Fleck do a Bach piece solo on 5 string banjo but a whole bluegrass band tackle the Brandenburg! Infrappingcredible! I saw in the comments below the youtube, a comment by a musician who CONDUCTED the 3rd, he said it was awesome too, so its no just us thinking it!

BTW, I have been following the career of Chris Thile since he was 13 and at that age made his first album! He is 31 now.

Did it cross anybody's mind that this is how it was played originally?

I don't see awesomeness, but lots of players playing a role. No real virtuosity!

Sorry to put a downer, with my opinion, but this is how it was played in Europe as it originally was. Nothing special here.

It was being played so in Europe, as the potatoes and Irish and Italians were arriving by boatloads, at that time to the US. If those interpretations were lost in the US, through inter whatever, then that's a shame.

I appreciate the transpose to guitars, but nothing special happening. πŸ™

You figure these boys are overstepping themselves, just folk musicians trying to be serious? The total sound was very spirited sounding to me. Did you try listening to it with eyes closed so you don't see each instrument?

I got turned on to the Brandenburg's about 25 years ago, listened to all 6 about 100 timesπŸ™‚ Still, a bluegrass version is amazing.

It's amazing also that Brandenburg himself poo-poo's all of them. No taste in that guy for sure. Didn't know what he had. Assshole....
