Well I've only played 6 games but won them all. After 3 games my rating was 1590 but despite winning 3 more games it is noe 1524.

This makes no sense. Why is this?

How much did you pay?

Obviously not enough...

Cross my palm with 3 bits of paper money and I'll see you right.

Because you played people with a significantly lower rating than your own. The last two games I see on you r list are both from

in the FAQ they answer this. pretty basic

you are provisionally rated for the first 20 games and your rating may appear erratic during this time. even going down when you win.

after 20 games this will correct itself and you will just not go up, or minimally, when you beat someone too far below you.

This because you are provisional rate. p1524. (provisional rate is up to 20 games u have to finish then ur rate cant go down when you win)

If you play another provisional lower rate than you you will lose points.

From the FAQs, under Help at the top of the page.
The rating calculation means that until you complete 20 games (i.e. while you still have a provisional rating), it is possible for your rating to go down even when you win a game.

beat ya

and also, the variable is only 200 as opposed to 400 in factoring your rating in provisional rounds or just against a prv player in general.

so it is harder to go up initially as well

So basically, I'm just an idiot. I should read the rules of this site and not just play.

So how to I play better players. I issue open invites but only get 1200 rated players playing me. I'd like to play players with ratings closer to my real ELO rating (1850 to 1950)

well a lot of ppl will stay away from provisional players since you could be playing a complete novice or the next 2000.

plus as I mentioned the variable isnt as high so you only get half credit for beating a prv regardless of how good they truly are.

once you get closer to being officially rated, you will probably start getting games from ppl since your rating will more accurately reflect your skill

When you have finished twenty rated games [ie, when you are no longer a provisionally rated player] you can set your open invites for a particular rating range. [via advanced options]

Absolutely. And I am busy playing 20 players at an amazingly fast rate.

That should sort out my rating and get me the games I want.
